Twas the Night Before Christmas: "Shop Big Bear" Edition

By Marlene Cain
As read at the December 3rd Power Breakfast

‘Twas the night before Christmas and
All through the Village
Not a shopper was stirring
Was everything pillaged?

No, our boutiques and shops
Have items galore
Where were the people
To fill up these stores?

My grandchildren nestled
All snug in their beds
And visions of presents
Danced in their heads.

But I felt tired
Rundown and ill
To think for their presents I must
Run down the hill.

So I started to dress
For the long winter trip
Prepped my car, filled my thermos
With something to sip.

When what do I hear?
Someone shouting “Marlene!”
Why, it’s that jolly driver
From Hancock Limousine!

He beckoned and waved
And took me away
“There’s no need to go
Down the hill today.”

There’s plenty of shopping
Right here in Big Bear
And you have the advantage
Of short trips and clean air!

I started to doubt
But he drove while he talked
And whisked me from home
To the Moonridge Boardwalk.

Store after store
Of beautiful things
Bear Mountain Trading
Lakeside and Wild Wings!

And wait, something new
For your shopping map
A boutique with cute gifts
And free gift wrap!

And then in a twinkling
We drove to North Shore
Where folks were trading
And buying some more!

And rounding the bend
Was a bakery fine
Get your holiday goodies
At Sugar Pine!

I grew excited
At all I could buy
So did my driver
And as we started to fly

He whistled and shouted
Each name did he speak:
There’s Goldsmiths and Avon
And lovely Mill Creek.

Grizzly Mountain Gourmet
And Interiors, too
Tea Company, Paper Clip
And Friends of the Zoo!

Elevations Day Spa
And Best Western Chateau
Johnny’s , Computer Pros
And Correy’s Design on the go!

Then Hancock limo
Started to slow
And the driver dropped me
At Leather Depot

I gazed down the Village
At the beautiful lights
“Happy shopping to all
And to all a good night!”
